End of the Season Results - by your reporter Graham Warren

Torbay finished the season on a high with the over 60's winning and our Top Club team beating Torquay at  ISCA.

In the 2 wood Bob Condon got things off to a good start by beating J Melmore 21-10, picking up 7 counts of 2 on the way.

In the Pairs Duncan Summers & Phil Hackett beat I Lesley and G Sanders by 25-9. They were 15 -2 @ 11 ends and 17-7 @ 15 over the next 4 ends they scored 8 shots with a reply of 2 before Torquay conceded @ 19 ends.

In the Triples John Read, Graham Warren & Derrick Singleton beat D Evans, C Down, J Webber by 24-13. 5 ends saw them 11-3 up with 2 counts of 5 in there, it was 18-9 at 15 ends when Torquay picked up 4 shots making it  18-13 with 2 to play. Torquay held 6 shots on the 17th end and Derrick played his last bowl to kill the end. On the replay Torbay picked up a 6 to gain victory.

In the 4 wood singles Lloyd Roberts was out-bowling S Tolchard but Sam's firing shots got him out of trouble several times and he won by 19-16; a brave effort by Lloyd!

In the Fours Rob Honeywell, John Cherrington, Andy Wickham & Roy Johnson lost to R Scott, R Murch, M Evans & J Evans 7-22. The Torbay lads were never really in this and conceded at 18 ends.

A brilliant result and throughly deserved win. The supporters who came along had some great bowling to watch and appreciate;  they didn't do badly with their vocal support for Torbay either!

LIBERTY TROPHY.

"It Beggars Belief."

DEVON'S Liberty Trophy selectors got both barrels from Torbay men's section press officer Graham Warren after an inspired performance from Derrick Singleton helped his side through to the second round of the EIBA Denny Cup inter-club competition.

Derek gave an outstanding performance during the recent trials for the Liberty Trophy team and, yet again, he has been overlooked for team selection - whilst players who gave a lesser performance got in ahead of him.

Our club is of the view that there is something seriously amiss in the selection process.

"It beggars belief that a bowler of his talent has been overlooked again by the Liberty selectors.

and yet players who did not have such a good trial or even turn up got in the squad before him."

"Whatever Derrick had to do, he did, and he was on fire," said Warren

It seems to be the case that it's who you know, rather than what you do, that settles the selection of players.

DCIBA PLEASE TAKE NOTE!
