In the 1920's Oldway Mansion ceased to be the Private Residence of the Singer Family (of the sewing machine fame) and in 1929 The Torbay Country Club was formed for golf, tennis, squash, badminton, swimming pool. and in the Mansion itself, bar, cafe, lounge and billiards. In 1930 a bowls section was formed titled "Torbay Country Bowling Club", with an opening ceremony on May 3rd performed by Mrs Graham Singer then in 1932 the clubaccepted Lady bowlers.Wikipedia Entry
